Logistics & Policies

Who Can Enroll in FAST3 Classes?

Everyone! Registration is not restricted, and anyone may enroll, whether or not they are affiliated with the University.

Workshop Locations

FAST3 scheduled classes are primarily held at two locations, both on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC):

  1. Illini Hall, Suite 026 – 725 South Wright Street, Champaign, Illinois
Illini Hall is located at the corner of Wright and John Streets; our classrooms are on the lower level, best entered via the John Street door. There are two classrooms located in Suite 026. Watch for signage to determine the appropriate room.

  2. UI Armory Building, Suite 156 – 505 E. Armory Avenue, Champaign, Illinois
The Armory Building is located between Fourth and Sixth Streets.  Suite 156 is located just inside the NORTHEAST entrance to the building (the entrance closest to the corner of Sixth & Armory).  Once you're inside, the door to Suite 156 is immediately on your right (just to the left of the two drinking fountains).

Carefully check your confirmation form for the location of your class meeting.  If your confirmation form doesn't indicate a specific location, you will be contacted  prior to the workshop with details (usually via email).

Confirmation of Enrollment

All but "last-minute" registrants will receive a written or email confirmation of their registration. If you have not received a confirmation prior to the scheduled class, we recommend that you call us.

Waiting Lists

Our classes fill quickly and our class size is small (usually ranging from 10-15 people). A waiting list is available for each class; vacancies are filled from that waiting list prior to the first class session. If a requested class is full, you will be asked if you want your name to appear on the waiting list. You will be notified by phone if we are able to get you into the class.

Cancellation Policy

The final date for cancellation without penalty is 5 working days (generally one calendar week) prior to the first class meeting. Sorry – we're unable to make exceptions, but see "Substitutions" below. If you must cancel, call us at 333-6285. If no one is available to help you, please leave voicemail – a recorded message is acceptable.

Substitutions: A substitute may be sent in your place if you are unable to attend. Please inform us of the name of the substitute so that we may change our records.

Prerequisites

Check prerequisites before enrolling in any course. The instructor in each class will be teaching based upon a common level of understanding in the classroom. If you lack the required knowledge, you'll quickly fall behind. Meeting course prerequisites is the student's responsibility; we're not able to issue a refund if you do not meet prerequisites.

Parking

No special parking is available for class participants. As is the case at all central campus locations, parking is scarce. We suggest that you walk or take public transportation whenever possible. Parking fees are the responsibility of the user.

Parking Lots

There is public metered parking (10-hour meters) in the UI Library parking lot at the SE corner of 6th and Armory Streets.  Meters are 75¢ per hour.  The Library lot is located:
½ block east of the UI Armory, and
3 blocks south and ½ block west of Illini Hall.

There are a few public metered spaces (10-hour meters) in the west half of Huff Hall parking lot (SE corner of 4th & Gregory; enter from Gregory).  Meters are 75¢ per hour.  The Huff Hall lot is located:
1 block south and 1½ blocks west of the UI Armory's NE entrance, and
4½  blocks south and 2½ block west of Illini Hall.

There is usually public metered parking (10-hour meters) available on the top level of the UI parking garage at the corner of 6th and John Streets (entry from John Street, which at that point is one-way east-bound).  Meters are 75¢ per hour, but are sometimes reserved for special University events. A lighted sign above the entrance should indicate whether public parking is available on the top level.  The 6th & John University parking garage is located:
1 block west of Illini Hall, and
3 blocks north of the UI Armory.

On-Street Parking

There is only one street in the area with unrestricted (10-hour) metered parking available (meters are 75¢ per hour):

  • Sixth Street, but only SOUTH of Armory Avenue (starting on same block as the UI Armory)

Nearly all other on-street metered parking in the area is “2-hour time zone limited,” which means parking on either side of the same street for more than 2 hours in any 3-hour period may result in a parking ticket (currently $10), even if the 2-hour meter is kept “fed.”

There are only a few other 10-hour meters in the area, and all of those are on the streets west of Fourth Street. Most spaces on streets west of Fourth Street are permit parking only (and the city does tow), but at one end of most blocks west of Fourth Street, the city has left two 10-hour meters available for public use.

Special Accommodations

Participants with disabilities needing special accommodations to attend a workshop must notify the FAST3 registrar at the time of registration so that arrangements can be made.

Participants using wheelchairs:

  1. At Illini Hall, wheelchair ramp access to the building is located on the southwest side of the building from John Street. There is an automatic door at the end of the ramp.
  2. At the Armory Building, there is an automatic door on the center-east side of the building (about 50 yards south of the NE entrance).

Class Times

All classes begin promptly at the stated times. We recommend that you arrive about ten minutes prior to the starting time of your class to hang up your coat and get settled. Please plan on staying in the class for the entire session; late arrivals and early departures are disruptive.

Class Materials

Most of the classes include written materials – either handouts or a workbook – that you can take with you at the end of the class. Many of our materials are purchased from an outside vendor who has granted quantity-purchase discounts to FAST3. We've passed that discount along to you. Trials have shown that these workbook materials are extremely effective and serve as excellent reference books after class completion.

You may wish to bring a pen or pencil and some extra paper for note taking.

Professional Credits (CEUs & CPDUs)

If you are required by your profession to earn continuing education credits (CEUs), we may be able to help you. Some workshops have already been approved for the award of University of Illinois CEUs ("UIUC CEUs"), and are so identified in the workshop description. Give us a call if you need certification of your attendance.

Illinois public school teachers are now eligible to earn Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDUs) for many of our workshops, provided their approved professional development plans include this type of activity. Contact us for further information.

Transcripts

Upon request, we are able to provide a record of classes attended.
